Fastpitch: SPSL seeding will be determined today

Given the sun that has finally come out today, we can finally say that the SPSL fastpitch seeding will be determined today, barring something like a lack of umpires, which happened to TJ on a previous, we’ll call it, playable non rainy day.  In the South,  Spanaway Lake (14-2) is the South 1  seed,  Puyallup and Rogers are tied at 12-3 but have one remaining regular season game against each other today to determine regular season 2nd and 3rd, Emerald Ridge (11-5) will be the South 4 seed and Beamer (9-7) will be the South 5 seed.

In the North, Kentlake and Tahoma, both 14-2, will play a tie breaker at 5PM (at Kentwood) today to determine the North 1 and 2 seed.  Auburn-Riverside and TJ, both 12-4, will play a tie breaker at 4PM today (at Beamer) for North 3 and 4 seed, and Kentwood gets the day off as they have already clenched sole possession of the North 5 seed.

Tahoma FP takes on Mt Rainier at 4PM Today

Tahoma fastpitch’s last make-up game against Mt Rainier will be played today at 4PM, at the Tahoma Jr High fields.  If Tahoma wins, they will tie for the North SPSL league title and will be forced into a tie breaker game with KL on Tuesday to determine seeding into the SPSL tournament.  That game will take place at 5PM at Kentwood High school.

Auburn-Riverside and Thomas Jefferson ended the season tied for third place and will play a seeding playoff game Tuesday at 4PM, at Mt Rainier High School.

Fastpitch: Road to SPSL Playoffs

The SPSL fastpitch season is finally wrapping up and heading into playoffs.  The SPSL playoffs start Thursday, May 12 at 4PM at the Service Club Fields in Kent.  The five North and five South teams have been decided, but the seeding has not.  Starting in the South, Spanaway Lake currently has a record of 14-1 and the final game set for today against Puyallup.  They have already clinched the S1 seed as they beat Rogers (10-2) twice.  Rogers has 2 tough games to make up against 10-5 Emerald Ridge and 11-3 Puyallup and will be fighting for the #2 seed.  Puyallup has even a tougher schedule as they still have to Spanaway Lake as well as Rogers.  Emerald Ridge just has Rogers left on their schedule and look to be the #4 seed out of the south.  That leaves 8-7 Bethel with the #5 seed with a game left against 5-10 Bethel.

In the North Kentlake has completed the season with a 14-2 record but could end up Seed 1 or 2 as they beat TJ twice and split with Tahoma.  Tahoma has a 12-2 record with games left against TJ and Mt Rainier.  If they win out they would be in a tie with Kentlake and a playoff game would be played (Tuesday, 5PM at Kentwood).  TJ has an 11-2 record with games left against 11-4 Auburn Riverside ( I have heard that this game has been played but I can’t find a record of it anywhere), Tahoma and Auburn.  If they win out they would be the #2 seed.   Auburn Riverside could end up in a tie with TJ and would be forced into a playoff game on Tuesday (at Mt Rainier HS) since they split the season.  Kentwood, 7-9, is the only North team to know their seeding as they will go in as the N5 seed.

There are games schedule Friday and Saturday to attempt to wrap up this season.  Monday is the last chance for make-up games prior to the Tuesday tie breaker schedule.  I suspect the rain will have to be coming down very hard for games to get rescheduled.

Once the SPSL tournament gets underway on Thurs, the first round match up will be N4 vs S3, S5 vs N2, S4 vs N3, and N5 vs S2.  The #1 seed don’t play until the 3rd round and are guaranteed no less than the #5 seed to District playoffs the following weekend.

Fastpitch: It’s anyone’s game…

Before week 1 of the SPSL North Softball schedule, I predicted Tahoma and Kentlake would be battling for the 1 and 2 spots; Mt Rainier and TJ would be be battling for 3 and 4; Auburn and Kentwood battling for 5 and 6.  Not the case!  Auburn-Riverside has snuck in under the radar and is one of the last undefeated teams in the league.  TJ surprised Tahoma in a 1-0 extra inning battle.  Mt Rainier has fallen short in some games I expected them to win, and Kentwood is shorthanded and has dropped some unexpected games as well.  The SPSL North is up for grabs.

Weather permitting, some key games this week include: Monday, Auburn-Riverside visits Kentlake at 7PM for the battle of the undefeated; Tahoma hosts Kentridge, who has come out swinging the bats very well;  on Tuesday, Auburn-Riverside hosts TJ which should be a very good game.   Most teams play three games this week, so the standings may look quite different come Friday.  Until then here are the current standings.

Team W L W L
Auburn Riverside 3 0 3 0
Kentlake 2 0 3 0
Tahoma 2 1 3 1
Auburn 1 1 3 1
Jefferson 1 1 1 1
Kentwood 1 1 3 3
Mount Rainier 1 2 1 2
Kentridge 0 2 0 4
Kent-Meridian 0 3 0 3
