A Bremerton man was killed after driving into the rear of a parked Celadon semi truck on the right shoulder of southbound state Route 167 just north of 15th Street Northwest in Auburn.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. Tuesday when the 29-year-old Bremerton man, driving a black 1998 Crown Victoria, drifted completely off the roadway onto the right shoulder. The vehicle appeared to maintain freeway speeds as it slammed into the right rear portion of the semi trucks trailer. The driver of the Crown Victoria was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi, a 51-year-old El Dorado Springs, Mo. resident, was not injured.
The semi truck driver advised troopers he pulled off the highway to look at directions. It is still under investigation on what caused the driver of the Crown Victoria to drive off the roadway prior to colliding with the semi.
The right lane of southbound SR 167 just north of 15th Street Northwest was closed for approximately three hours while troopers investigated the scene.
